As a section of the Camping and Caravanning Club, all our camping events are open to Camping and Caravanning Club members (including Canoe-camping Club members) only. Anyone participating must be a member of the Camping and Caravanning Club before attending a meet.

Please remember to bring your Club membership cards to all club events, since we are required to check and record memberships are current.  We also need to record BRITISH CANOEING numbers for those who have them. Paddlers need to be a member of the Canoe-camping Club and/or one of Britain's paddlesport National Governing Bodies*.   These are needed to ensure that we are covered by the Club's and British Canoeing's insurance.
Canoeing and kayaking are ‘assumed risk’ ‘water contact’ activities, however serious accidents are very rare.
Participants should be aware of and accept these risks, and be responsible for their own action and involvement.
All participants in club trips or meets do so at their own risk, and neither the Club nor its officers can accept any liability for loss or injury of any kind sustained whilst on a Club trip, meet or other activity.

This month...

***cancelled*** GREAT OUSE
Sunday 31 July 2022

Sadly due to parking issues at the end we have had to cancel this trip.

This is a 10 mile day trip from Kempston Mill to Great Barford. It is suitable for all types of craft, but there are four portages, two may be shootable dependant on river conditions and type of craft and level of confidence! There are no toilet facilities at the start or en-route but lots of bushes!

For the first two miles, there will be little or no other craft on the water, until we reach central Bedford, where we may encounter some rowers from The Star and Bedford Rowing Clubs.

At 2.7 miles just after Bedford Rowing Club, there is a stepped weir, which is normally OK to shoot, but those who would prefer to portage, there is a portage point further down river. From here onwards there may be some powered motor boats.

At 4.5 miles we reach Cardington Lock, were there is a short portage.

At 6 miles we reach Castle mills lock & weir, this must be portaged!

8.2 miles is Willington lock/weir, which is shootable dependant on type of craft and river conditions.

We finish just in front of the Anchor Inn, High Street, Great Barford. Here you can get a good pint, plus a meal if you wish.

If you are intending to join me on this trip, I will need your Camping & Caravanning Club, and British Canoeing membership numbers, also a mobile phone number (just in case!) in advance of the trip.
