As a section of the Camping and Caravanning Club, all our camping events are open to Camping and Caravanning Club members (including Canoe-camping Club members) only. Anyone participating must be a member of the Camping and Caravanning Club before attending a meet.

Please remember to bring your Club membership cards to all club events, since we are required to check and record memberships are current.  We also need to record BRITISH CANOEING numbers for those who have them. Paddlers need to be a member of the Canoe-camping Club and/or one of Britain's paddlesport National Governing Bodies*.   These are needed to ensure that we are covered by the Club's and British Canoeing's insurance.
Canoeing and kayaking are ‘assumed risk’ ‘water contact’ activities, however serious accidents are very rare.
Participants should be aware of and accept these risks, and be responsible for their own action and involvement.
All participants in club trips or meets do so at their own risk, and neither the Club nor its officers can accept any liability for loss or injury of any kind sustained whilst on a Club trip, meet or other activity.

RIVER THAMES - Fireworks meet M11223/2023
From Friday 03 November 2023
To Sunday 05 November 2023

FIreworks from the riverPADDLING.

Saturday: https://my.viewranger.com/track/details/OTAyNzgxNw==

7 mile Circular paddle from Windsor, up the Roundmoor Ditch, portaging onto the Jubilee River to paddle back down, out onto the Thames and back to the club.  This route involves some limbo-ing under low bridges, and the possibility to slide down the weirs on the Jubilee.  Portage trolleys essential, plus of course a packed lunch etc.

 Those wanting less of a challenge can paddle an out-and-back upstream.

Saturday Evening:

An opportunity to view the local firework display from your boat. This is always a ‘son et lumiere’ affair, and this year is themed around Colours.  (See https://www.windsor-racecourse.co.uk/whats-on/saturday-4-november-fireworks for an idea of what to expect).  PLEASE EQUIP YOURSELF WITH AN ALL ROUND WHITE LIGHT * to comply with navigation regulations in darkness. The fireworks start at approximately 19:45, so we’ll aim to be on the water by 19:15 to be able to paddle upstream and be in position in time.  Afterwards there will be jacket potatoes and hot soup available.

Sunday : a local day-trip will be arranged, launching at Windsor Canoe Club. The intention is to paddle 'out and back' i.e. no car ferry.

A waterways licence/boat registration is needed to paddle these waters - details of the fees are here and the application form is here.  (British Canoeing on-the-water personal membership includes the waterways licence)

FRIDAY and SATURDAY NIGHT ACCOMMODATION

We have been kindly offered limited indoor accommodation by Windsor and Eton Sea Cadets.  Roll mats / camp-beds and sleeping bags required. There are loos and showers in the Sea Cadet unit, and a small galley with oven, fridge, 4 ring hob, kettle, tea urn and microwave oven.  The unit also has a licensed bar!  If you would like a space, please contact Fran beforehand to make sure there is capacity – it will be on a first-come-first-served basis.  Those wishing to camp contact Fran to check on the finer details.

Committee Meeting on Saturday afternoon.

* one suggestion is that you wear a white head torch on top of your head, with something like a small milk bottle taped over the top to diffuse the light.
