As a section of the Camping and Caravanning Club, all our camping events are open to Camping and Caravanning Club members (including Canoe-camping Club members) only. Anyone participating must be a member of the Camping and Caravanning Club before attending a meet.

Please remember to bring your Club membership cards to all club events, since we are required to check and record memberships are current.  We also need to record BRITISH CANOEING numbers for those who have them. Paddlers need to be a member of the Canoe-camping Club and/or one of Britain's paddlesport National Governing Bodies*.   These are needed to ensure that we are covered by the Club's and British Canoeing's insurance.
Canoeing and kayaking are ‘assumed risk’ ‘water contact’ activities, however serious accidents are very rare.
Participants should be aware of and accept these risks, and be responsible for their own action and involvement.
All participants in club trips or meets do so at their own risk, and neither the Club nor its officers can accept any liability for loss or injury of any kind sustained whilst on a Club trip, meet or other activity.

The plan is to paddle the river Nene between Oundle and Peterborough, through a rural area with many historic great houses and pretty pale stone estate villages.

Camping Friday and Saturday nights at Yarwell Mill, PE8 6PS, 01780782344, which is attractively sited on the River Nene, and convenient for the A1.

Please book directly with campsite, telling the campsite that you are part of the Canoe Camping Club group, and let me know that you are joining us.

Cost £18 per unit per night including 2 people, payable in cash on arrival (although if we have 10 units or more we can qualify for a lower rally rate). As we are paddling to/from the campsite non-campers will need to pay a visitor fee of £4 to launch, leave cars etc.

Canoeing

We will shuttle cars each day and paddle to/from the campsite, with paddles of 13 miles and 10 ½ miles, plus a number of weir portages each day. The new portage points often take us into backwater weir streams, which can be quite fun. The river is a fairly quiet navigation, and the canoeing is technically undemanding so is suitable for most abilities and types of craft, so long as you are capable of paddling these distances at a reasonable pace.

Licence: covered by BCU licence. To be eligible to paddle with the CCC you need to be either a member of the CCC or the BCU. It is more convenient to let me have your CCC and/or BCU numbers and expiry dates by email prior to the paddle. If not, you MUST bring your membership cards with you so that I can record the details. I have to send these details to the CCC afterwards.

Non-paddlers

Apart from the excellent walking and exploring the villages, the Nene Valley steam railway runs nearby.
